Ritz Cinemas

UPDATE: Due to NSW's ongoing stay at home order, this event has been rescheduled from Sunday 1 August to Sunday 22 August. Ticketholders will be contacted. If you have any questions please contact us here.

A Star is Re-Born

In 1937, between a Great Depression and World War, a star was born when the Randwick Ritz opened its doors to patrons for the very first time, commencing 85 uninterrupted years of magical moviegoing in the heart of Randwick.

The same year, the original A Star is Born was released in theatres. In the lead-up to our 85th birthday, we will be making some exciting upgrades to the complex, ensuring that all key historical and heritage elements are preserved. On Sunday 22 August, we'll present an information session about these upcoming renovations, followed by a rare screening of this masterpiece of Hollywood cinema.

Co-owner Eddie Tamir will present the planned works live in cinema prior to the screening, and we encourage all members of the Ritz community to come along to see what we have in store. All tickets are $10

When a young actress (Janet Gaynor) arrives in Hollywood with hopes of stardom, a chance encounter places her under the wing of older actor Norman Maine (Fredric March). Adopting the stage name Vicki Lester, she co-stars with Norman in a major motion picture, but his success is clearly fading even as her career begins. After the couple wed, Vicki's fame continues to grow, but Norman descends into alcoholism, and she must decide between pursuing her dream and caring for him.

There's no place like home...

Due to the temporary Stay At Home orders, Ritz Cinemas will be closed until restrictions are lifted. Thank you for your understanding and support. We look forward to welcoming you back to the movies soon.
