This award-winning coming-of-age tale chronicles a young girl's stormy passage through the sedate halls of an expensive Melbourne finishing school.
A charming portrait of an imaginative country girl who refuses to be broken to fit the mould of a Victorian-era young lady, the film is based on the immortal book by Henry Handel Richardson, was directed by Bruce Beresford (Don's Party), and boasts fine performances from Barry Humphries, John Waters, Sigrid Thornton and Kerry Armstrong.
