“A powerful and insightful journey into the heart of contemporary Russian society.” - ICS

Lera lives in a provincial town. She is a first-year student in the sociology faculty of the local university. By day she studies humanity and its ‘needs’, surveying residents as part of her required coursework. By night she dances in a strip club under the stage name Gerda to feed herself and her dependent mother. The people she meets are just as unhappy as her own family: Lera’s father left her mother for another woman but keeps coming back, unable to face the choice he has made. Her mother cannot cope with the breakup and sleeps all the time, shutting out reality.

Gerda is an ambitious social drama unfolding in a post-Soviet world.
