Acclaimed British filmmaker Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank, American Honey) makes her documentary debut in this observational portrait of a dairy cow on an English farm.
A calf is born and then soon separated from its parent. The mother returns to a routine of milking and grazing, while the calf joins its fellow youngsters. So begins the cycle of life on a dairy farm. With her signature empathy, Arnold captures the passing of the seasons: the calf matures; the mother grows old. Tagged ‘social realism for animals’, this moving and considered documentary makes for unsettling but wholly compelling viewing.
Content warning: animal death on screen.
